New Studio Pictures

here are some new studio pictures. they are of the new oil painting area, acrylic painting area, and printmaking area along with a spot where my daughter plays.

oil painting area, with a few 2 by 4s and a counter top i bought at a garage sale i have a great place to work. all the boxes underneath are part of the supplies i got from my artist grant

acrylic painting area - new walls, shelving, and the through the doorway is a whole room of storage for my art supplies.

printmaking area - it still needs some work such as shelves but i have to cover about 30 feet of wall space with insulation and wall board in this area yet.

Studio pictures

curious about where artists work? i like to see pictures of other artists studios or creative spaces. it is fun to see how things are arranged, stored and used.
right now i am in the process of trying to decide how i want my studio set up. i work in the basement with windows and a walk out with gardens on either side and i love it. now i need to work on the inside and decide how i want it to flow. i have several stations set up now - one for oil painting, acrylic painting, beading and wire work, and a place to gesso, frame etc. i also have a room for clay. i have about 1000 square feet to work with along with a large storage room for all my stuff.

this is my acrylic area...i generally keep it separate from my oil area because they do not mix well. Acrylic can only be used as a base for oil paint, not used on top of oils.

Here is my oil painting area, my easel is just about where i am standing to take the picture. i have all my supplies in this area for oil painting along with my inspiration wall of art work for reference.
i have some tables set up behind this area that i use to lay work on to frame, gesso, to dry etc.
so, what does your studio look like? post your links to your studio and lets see where you work too.

Panels for Inasmuch House

Hello everyone! well i don;t know about you but June and the first week of July have been beautiful in this part of the country. i have been busy working in the gardens but i have done some art work.

I am a member of the Battle Creek Society of Artists and our past President Xenia wrote a grant for supplies for the group to provide murals and art work to the Inasmuch House in Battle Creek, Michigan. The House is a place for families, and women and children to go when they need extra help, have been abused, etc. The House has just added 4 new rooms for whole families (dads included yippee!! now the families can stay together). Anyway, the place looks pretty much like an institution and we wanted to provide them with some art work for the walls. Members were asked to sign up for several different sized panels to paint and donate to Inasmuch house. I did 2 - 2 feet by 2 feet panels and after seeing several of the panels at past meetings many of them were for small children and got me to thinking of tween and teen girls, so here are my contributions to the Inasmuch House murals.

Play a Handmade Gift Forward

i have been seeing this on several of the blogs that i have visited recently and thought it was a good idea. it goes with my handmade pledge which you can see on the right side of this blog, just scroll down and click on the handmade button if you are interested.

i know it is suppose to be pay it forward but i like the idea that i "play" with my art supplies to make a handmade gift for you and so "Play it Forward" is what i am doing....

ok here goes with my "play it forward" -

Melissa from has invited everyone to take part in this Play It Forward.

I think this is a great idea and I am willing to "play it forward", are you?

I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog to this entry requesting to join this ‘Play It Forward’ exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within the year that is my promise!

The only thing you have to do in return is ‘Play It Forward’ by making the same promise on your blog with a link back to me at So basically, if you comment, I’ll send you a handmade gift that I’ll make! Be sure to include your email. Once you sign up, copy and paste the above paragraph on your blog, and three other lucky people will be recipients of your handmade work. You must post this on your blog to be eligible.

I received my invite to play from Moonwillow at

drawings and sketches

here are some drawings i worked on over the summer. Drawing comes a bit hard for me but i like to draw when i have the time. i also posted some of my sketches/rough drafts for paintings below, i use them as a prelim before i actually paint. Enjoy!

Sketches -

Lap top and website

well, i just ordered my new Dell laptop and have started my new website. laptop will be here sometime the week of January 21st, i am so excited!! i can go to the college and use it or at the coffee shop and no more waiting for the dial up connection. i am hoping to be able to get a wireless card soon, the dial up is slower than snail mail at home. here is the lap top i have is a Dell XPS M1530 in black.

i have lots to do for the website and i realized i should have waited another month to actually start it...i need to take pictures of all my work and type up some copy for the pages. i decided to go with, they have been around a long time and after searching around and looking at many websites and hosting sites i made my decision. i had been with homestead a long time ago with a free site and they were easy to use. it just somehow seemed the right place for me at this time. i will let you know more when i go live.

found a very cool website that lets you find all kinds of art blogs - check it out at

New year's resolutions...

yeah, i know i am bit behind but ya gotta do what ya gotta do!! i have been busy recuperating from surgery in mid December and writing curriculum for another class i am teaching at KCC.

so here is my goal list for 2008 -

1. build a website
2. purchase a laptop
3. lose weight (always have this one on the list)
4. build an email list (if you want on the list let me know)
5. produce more art (i would like to build a portfolio of fine art)
6. create a e-newsletter for my art
7. blog at least once a week
8. get published in some capacity

Laptops and webhosting

well, i have been searching the web for a hosting site...something easy to use and relatively reasonably priced. do you have any ideas? who do you use for your hosting site? did you build it yourself?

what about a laptop? what are some must have features? i am currently looking at Dell but i could be swayed in other directions.

i really am at a loss as to what i really want to do for these things....any comments would be helpful!! thanks.
